The most popular AI image and video generator might surprise you - here's why people use it

A recent survey conducted by Artificial Analysis sheds light on the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for image and video generation. By polling 300 developers and creators, the study offers insights into which platforms are leading the field, how these tools are being used, and what factors influence both personal and enterprise adoption.

**Google Dominates AI Image and Video Generation**

One of the survey’s most striking findings is Google’s strong presence in both the AI image and video creation spaces. Google Gemini, the company’s AI-powered image generator, emerged as the most widely used tool among respondents. An impressive 74% reported using Gemini for image creation, outpacing competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT Image (used by 64%) and Black Forest Labs’ Flux (37%).

The dominance of Gemini extends beyond casual use. When usage was broken down by category, 77% of individuals surveyed relied on Gemini for personal image creation, while 68% of enterprise users preferred it for business needs. This suggests that Google’s solution is seen as a reliable and versatile option across different contexts.

In AI video generation, Google’s Veo platform was the top choice. Veo was used by 67% of respondents for personal projects and by 72% of organizations for enterprise-level video creation. Other notable platforms in the video space include Kling and MiniMax Hailuo, but none matched Veo’s widespread adoption.

**Images Outpace Video, But Both Are Popular**

The survey revealed that generating images with AI remains more popular than generating videos. For personal use, 53% of respondents incorporate AI-generated images into their creative workflows, compared to 39% who use AI-generated videos in a similar way. This preference is mirrored in organizational settings: 44% of surveyed organizations include AI-generated images in their production workflows, while 39% do the same for AI-generated videos.

Despite this, there is significant overlap in how AI-generated images and videos are used. Most personal users create “small, one-off creations,” with 81% using AI for single images and 77% for brief video clips. However, when it comes to more complex tasks like storyboarding, special effects, and short-form promotional content, more respondents turn to AI video generators (63%) than image generators (52%). This indicates that while static images are still the default for simple tasks, video tools are gaining traction for more dynamic and multi-step creative processes.

**Enterprise Usage: Focus on Quality and Cost**

When organizations decide which AI tools to adopt, several factors come into play. The survey highlighted that the primary considerations for choosing an enterprise-wide AI image or video generator are the quality of the generated output (cited by 82% of respondents), the model’s ability to accurately interpret prompts (73%), and the overall cost (55%).

Interestingly, organizations prefer AI video generators over image generators for advertising purposes (55% vs. 42%). This suggests a growing recognition of the impact that dynamic, AI
